Jessica Fredericks and Andrew Freiser in Artillery Magazine

Tell us about yourself:

We see ourselves as both gallerists and collectors. Since opening Fredericks & Freiser in 1996, we’ve spent nearly thirty years championing and collecting idiosyncratic, psychologically charged work. Our personal collection has been built slowly and with real intention, reflecting a long-term commitment to building depth within a core group of artists.

Q&A:

Q: What current art trends do you wish would die?

A: Easy-to-digest art: illustrated interiors and vibe abstraction.

Q: What current art trends are you obsessed with?

A: We’re drawn to artists who build feeling into form, where emotion isn’t the subject but the engine driving the image.

Q: Most extreme thing you did to secure an artwork?

A: Driving an hour with a painting sticking out of the back of a convertible.

Q: Strangest collecting experience?

A: Bidding at a regional auction house in a strip mall next to a nail salon.
